Tobacco Road Golf Club has chosen Troon to manage the Sanford, North Carolina golf course. Troon Golf, the resort and daily-fee division of Troon, will head up management duties for golf operations, agronomy, food & beverage, retail, and sales and marketing.
This story was first reported by Golf Inc. magazine.

The club, located 25 miles north of the fabled Pinehurst, opened in 1998 as a 6,557-yard, par-71 design from Mike Strantz, who the club’s website quotes as saying, “I want every hole to exude the spirit of the game.”
The land began life as a tobacco farm, but over time became a sand quarry before finally becoming the current golf course. It has been widely hailed as a master class in composition and currently sits at No. 45 on Golf Digest’s ranking of the 100 greatest public courses in America.
“After thoroughly evaluating our options for management of Tobacco Road, we are excited to select Troon as the steward of Strantz’s uncompromising design,” said Tobacco Road Golf Club founder Mark Stewart.
In addition to the golf course, Tobacco Road also features a clubhouse with a well-appointed golf shop and snack bar, as well as practice facilities such as a full-size practice range, chipping area, and putting green.
