Camps gauge readiness for collegiate golf life at groundbreaking new experiential camp
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 2, 2019) – For high school and junior golfers aspiring to play the sport collegiately, it’s challenging to know if they’re preparing well enough or making the right contacts to give themselves the best opportunity to make a college golf team.
To support that process for young golfers across the country, TGA Premier Sports is pleased to announce a partnership with Loyola Marymount men’s head golf coach Jason D’Amore to present the innovative Southern California golf Experience, a one-of-a-kind five-day junior golf camp.
This summer, the first ever series of Southern California College Golf Experiences will provide high school and junior golfers face time with college coaches and players as well as chances to showcase their talents, have skills assessments, ask questions and get an eye-opening peek into the life of a college golfer. Starting with a June 17-21 camp and running through August, these sessions are open to boys and girls, ages 10 to 18.
“Becoming a collegiate golfer is a process that takes hard work and constant communication with college coaches. The latest recruiting rules have made it so there are few opportunities to interact with coaches,” says D’Amore. “This is a great chance for young golfers to learn, compete and showcase their talents on outstanding Southern California golf venues while interacting with college coaches and players. It’s never too early to start thinking of your golfer’s future.”
TGA Premier Sports conducts in-school and after-school junior golf programs as well as community-based junior golf camps in cities across the U.S., so providing another pathway for young golfers to excel and continue in the game is a natural progression. TGA CEO Joshua Jacobs calls the Southern California College Golf Experience “an incredible opportunity for a junior golfer to measure his preparedness while receiving a master class on what they can do to have the best chance at making it on to a college team one day.”
At each Southern California College Golf Experience, campers will play, practice, compete and receive lessons from college coaches and players. To foster a better understanding of their games, they will develop a customized wedge system with useful yardages, have their driver ball flight analyzed to optimize equipment specs and have an individual game plan formulated to optimized practice time and improvement.
Parents and players will have the chance to attend question and answer sessions with coaches and players as well as a tour of Loyola Marymount’s campus and practice grounds. Resident camper’s parents will participate live via webinar for the Q&A sessions. Campers will also have the opportunity to receive playing lessons from college coaches and players on renowned Southern California layouts, including Rustic Canyon Golf Course, Rancho Park Golf Course, Wilson Golf Course and Olivas Golf Links Course.
“This camp experience takes an in-depth approach to gearing serious young golfers for life as a college player,” D’Amore says. “Campers will receive an inside look at a college golfer’s weekly routine and we’ll also help them learn essential skills like formatting communications to college coaches and creating a working plan for their progression from junior to college golf.”
In addition to the immersion into routines the college golfers, campers will get a taste of true Southern California lifestyle, exploring Los Angeles attractions like beaches, dining, a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game and Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade and with chaperones.
Dates for the first-ever series of the Southern California College Golf Experience include:
June 17-21 | June 24-28 | July 22-26 | August 12-16
