WESTMONT, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2020) – The U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance (USAGA) is pleased to announce support from the PGA of America for its 4th International USAGA Para-Golf Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club, an Arcis Golf property, in Dallas, Oct. 19-22.
The PGA of America, comprised of nearly 29,000 men and women PGA Professionals, elevates the standards of the golf profession and grows interest and inclusion in the game.
“We are delighted to partner with the U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance and support their Para-Golf Championship this fall,” says PGA of America Chief People Officer Sandy Cross. “Golf is truly a game for all, and the championship will be a wonderful showcase to illustrate that. One in four adults in the U.S. has a disability. We want to inspire this population by showing them that golf can play a valuable role in their health, healing, well-being and overall vitality.”
“The disabled population is pleased with the great efforts from the PGA of America to include our community in the fabric of society through the great game of golf, so that everybody can play golf and compete,” says USAGA Chairman Edmund ‘EQ’ Sylvester. “In our minds, the PGA of America covers the full gamut of the joy of golf, namely, instruction, play and competition. The USAGA is trying to replicate this process for the disabled golfer in our country. We have much to learn, and the PGA of America is a great leader in this regard.”
The USAGA International Para-Golf Championship is open to disabled men and women and closely follows the protocol of the International Paralympic Committee. Players compete in 15 specific para-golf classifications, assuring a level playing field regardless of an individual’s challenges. The United States has its own competition and ranking standards, called the USAGR, which provide competitive leadership and direction for disabled golfers in our country.
The USAGA International Para-Golf Championship is the only major championship that classifies golfers based on their individual challenges and identifies the country’s best golfers within each classification division.
The top two places from each sport’s class secure a berth on the USA Para-Golf Team.
