72-Hole event, world’s largest 19th hole attract golfers from across the globe
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Aug. 22, 2019) – Golf’s most inclusive tournament, the World Amateur Handicap Championship, is poised to tee-off on 60 of Myrtle Beach’s best courses.
The 36th annual World Am will be played Aug. 26-30 and more than 3,200 golfers from 49 states and 20+ countries are competing in the event.
“The World Amateur Handicap Championship represents everything that is great about the game of golf,” tournament director Scott Tomasello said. “We will have men and women from all walks of life and all over the globe here in Myrtle Beach, enjoying the opportunity to compete and celebrate the game they love. Out of a field of 3,200, we will crown a World Champion, but this tournament is about so much more than a golfer’s score.”
The World Am flights players into nine divisions – men 49 and under, senior men (50-59), mid-senior men (60-69), super senior men (70-79), seasoned seniors (80+), women, the gross division, senior (50+) gross division. There is also a “Just For Fun” flight, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.
After 72 holes of net, stroke play competition, all flight winners and ties will advance to the Flight Winner’s Playoff at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club, an 18-hole shootout that will determine the 2019 World Champion.
While competition is what initially attracts golfers to the World Am, it’s only part of the event’s story. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among its participants and much of that kinship is fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.
Each night of the event, the 19th Hole overtakes all 120,000-square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a golf expo and more.
Among the big names that will join media personality and tournament emcee Charlie Rymer at the 19th Hole this year are Golf Channel personalities, Damon Hack, Chantel McCabe and Geoff Shackleford, social media influencer Paige Spiranac, famed instructors Michael Breed and Hank Haney, and billiards legend Ewa Mataya Laurance
In addition to a bucket list golf experience, World Am players will also receive a gift bag that includes a Chase 54 polo, a pullover, a logo’d hat, a PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies.
The World Am is also giving away more than $100,000 in prizes, including a dream Myrtle Beach golf vacation and a new Icon I40 Golf Cart, to the top 5 finishers in each flight and as random drawing prizes.
